Though it won't lose sight of its popular design, the Nissan Altima will be receiving quite an intense refresh for the 2013 model year. Set to premiere at the New York Auto Show in early April 2012 with the new Infiniti LE concept (luxury electric) sedan, the next-generation Nissan Altima has been spied testing in several different markets, but it's still heavily disguised. We do spot quite a few new features on the vehicle, however.

The 2013 Nissan Altima's front end reminds us of an updated version of the 2012 Nissan Versa's, while its rear features a hunchback trunklid similar to the 2012 Nissan Versa. The taillights appear somewhat new in design, though they are slightly similar to other new Nissan models. With a C-pillar that stretches far beyond its rear wheels, the Altima also reminds us of a fastback model. Overall, Nissan promises big surprises for this new Altima. Personally, we can't help but think it could be deeply influenced by the 2010 Nissan Ellure Concept.

Though the new Altima will have a refreshed exterior, its powertrain basics are likely to stay basically  the same with a standard four-cylinder engine, and optional V6 engine that work in connection with a continuously variable transmission. With either option, expect the Altima to be very fuel-efficient.
